STRONG WINDS ACCOMPANY A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND A COLD FRONT
MOVING THROUGH CENTRAL OHIO.
AT 1241 PM WINDS GUSTED TO 53 MPH AT THE PORT COLUMBUS AIRPORT AS
A STRONG COLD FRONT MOVED THROUGH THE AREA. WEATHER SERVICE RADAR SHOWED A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND IMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS THAT EXTENDED FROM HURON COUNTY SOUTHWEST TO DAYTON AND THEN SOUTHEAST TO CHILLICOTHE. A FEW THUNDERSTORMS WERE LOCATED OVER CENTRAL DELAWARE… FAIRFIELD…AND CENTRAL LICKING COUNTIES. THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING TO THE
NORTHEAST AT 45 TO 50 MPH.
LOCAL POLICE REPORTED A NUMBER OF TREES DOWN AROUND THE COLUMBUS AREA. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM FOR CENTRAL AND EASTERN OHIO.

A HIGH WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING FOR ALL OF
OHIO.
A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WAS CENTERED IN SOUTHWESTERN MICHIGAN WITH A COLD FRONT FROM THE LOW CENTER SOUTH TO THE GULF COAST. AS THE LOW PRESSURE MOVES NORTHEAST THE COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH OHIO BY TONIGHT. THIS SYSTEM WAS CAUSING WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH. THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF WIND DAMAGE IN WESTERN OHIO. ALONG WITH THE STRONG WINDS THUNDERSTORMS WERE OCCURRING AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT. AT 1240PM A LINE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WAS FROM NEAR LIMA TO SPRINGFIELD THEN SOUTH TO THE OHIO RIVER. THE LINE WAS ABOUT 30 MILES WIDE AND WAS MOVING NORTHEAST AROUND 40 MPH. THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED IN THE COLUMBUS AREA BETWEEN 1PM AND 3PM THIS AFTERNOON.

AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT ACCOMPANIED BY STRONG GUSTY WINDS MOVED INTO CENTRAL OHIO THIS MORNING.
AT 915 AM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED A 40 MILE WIDE BAND OF RAIN SHOWERS FROM MANSFIELD TO 40 MILES SOUTHWEST OF COLUMBUS. THE PRECIPITATION WAS MOVING EAST AT 40 MILES AN HOUR AND WILL MOVE OUT OF CENTRAL OHIO BY EARLY AFTERNOON.
THE SHOWERS WERE ASSOCIATED WITH AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT THAT WAS MOVING RAPIDLY ACROSS THE STATE. THE FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH COLUMBUS BY 1030 AM.
STRONG GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WERE OCCURRING BEHIND THE FRONT. WINDS WERE GUSTING TO 35 MILES AN HOUR OVER INDIANA AND ALL OF WESTERN OHIO. THE GUSTY WINDS COULD POSE A PROBLEM FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. MOTORISTS AND ESPECIALLY TRUCKERS SHOULD USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING THROUGH CENTRAL OHIO TODAY.
