Demolished Buildings
Bruck Street

Forest Street

2. Herman Schwanke House: 415 Forest Street: 1909-1972: Demolished to build the current apartment building.
Front Street
1. Conrad Born Jr. House: 588 S. Front Street: 1869-Around 1950 : The house existed at least until 1944 based on records, but was demolished sometime before 1953. It seems to have been demolished for a parking lot for the building at 570 S. Front. The parking lot was eventually replaced by the current parking garage in 2009.
Gates Street
1. Commercial Building: 33-35 W. Gates Street: Around 1900-1971: Unknown reason for demolition. The site has been used as a parking lot since the demolition.
High Street
1. Salvation Army Building: 580 S. High Street: Pre-1890-1978: The exact construction date for the building is unknown, but it appears in old records back to at least 1890. The building served as a mixed of residential and retail space for most of its early years before becoming and office and retail building later. It functioned as the local Salvation Army from 1923 until its demolition. The demolition was to make way for a new office building that still exists today.
2. Peter Hayden House: 665 S. High Street: 1851-Around 1900: Unknown reason for demolition, but prior to that time, Wall Street ended at what was known as the Hayden Property. By 1901, maps show Wall Street continuing south to Frankfort Street. The house sat almost directly on the route of Wall, so it seems to have been demolished for this expansion and the subdivision of the greater Hayden property. Today, the site is part of the Grange Insurance complex.
3. William Armbruster House: 683-685 S. High Street: 1886-1979: Demolished to create green space for an expanded Grange Insurance complex.
4. Emil Kiesewetter House: 697 S. High Street: 1887-1979: Demolished to create green space for an expanded Grange Insurance complex.
5. Louis Lindeman House: 1133 S. High Street: 1842-1981: Demolished to build the current White Castle drive-thru.
6. O.R. Woodyard Funeral Home: 1346 S. High Street: 1924-1973: The home was purchased by the funeral home in 1927. Additions over time, particularly in 1956 and 1973, eventually covered up the house, and today the building is fully incorporated- and largely destroyed- into the existing structure, which is still a funeral home. The north side dormer of the original house is still visible in the 2022 photo.
Innis Avenue
1. Alex Kiraly House: 296 E. Innis Avenue: Around 1900-2017: the house was most likely demolished due to very poor condition. The site has remained vacant since then.
Livingston Avenue
1. Louis Hoster House: 31 E. Livingston Avenue: 1834-Around 1895: Unknown reason for demolition. The orientation of Livingston Avenue changed some during the construction of I-70. The current photo is positioned just south of where Livingston originally was, but still looks on the approximate site of the house.
2. Bauman & Kinnel Plumbing: 53 E. Livingston Avenue: Around 1890-Around 1963: The building was demolished just after the construction of I-70, most likely due to it being a wooden structure and not in good condition at the time. It has remained a parking lot ever since.
3. Livingston Methodist Church: 76 E. Livingston Avenue: 1872-1963: Demolished for the construction of I-70.
4. Hymon Thall House: 333-335 E. Livingston Avenue: Around 1905-1966: Demolished to build the current office building.
5. Residential House: 497-499 E. Livingston Avenue: Around 1895-1967: Demolished by the city for school facilities. The site is now part of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital complex.

4. Guy Simmons House: 859-861 Parsons Avenue: 1906-Around 1968: Demolished for unknown reasons, but may have been for the parking lot that was on the site afterwards. Today, the site is parking for a dollar store.
5. Greeley Ferguson House: 1169-1171 Parsons Avenue: 1906-1968: Demolished to provide space for parking for a new business. The site remains parking today.
