Cool Link of the Day: Living Wage Calculator Map

Interested in knowing how the minimum wage of an area compares to a living wage? Take a look at the map. You can go down to county and metro level. Columbus does well compared to most of the nation, but no minimum wage is enough in any area to equal a local living wage.

May 2014 Jobs Data

May was generally a positive month for Columbus and Ohio. Unemployment rates did creep up a bit, but largely because more people came onto the market looking for jobs, which is considered a positive sign.

Also positive is that almost every industry saw decent growth in the metro.

April 2014 Jobs Data

I haven’t given jobs data for awhile, and thought it was time to updated. The most recent full numbers are from April. Overall, there was more good than bad with the report. Unemployment was well below the national average and falling rapidly. Employment was up and unemployment was down. The only real negative was that the labor force remained stagnant to down a bit.

May’s preliminary numbers look very good, and when those are fully released, I will do another report. Until then, here is April.

Overall, June was a pretty good month for Columbus and the state. Unemployment rose, but mostly because the labor force had strong growth, which is a sign of more people entering a recovering job market. Most industries saw job growth both year-over-year and year-to-date.
