Persistent heavy rain events during the first 2 weeks of January 2005 brought significant flooding in the Columbus area. The Scioto River at Franklinton reached 26.61 feet, almost 11 feet above flood stage. This was the 3rd highest crest on record after the floods of 1913 and 1959. Floodwalls prevented significant damage.

The Blizzard of 1996 was caused by a Gulf Coast low moving up along the East Coast combined with an Ohio Valley low that pulled moisture from the coastal low.  The storm brought several hours of blizzard conditions, with winds over 40mph, deep drifts and impassible roads.
